Months after Drake signs with Universal Records, another intense bidding war ensues, resulting in Nicki Minaj signing with Lil Wayne’s Young Money label. During the last two years Minaj has emerged as one of the premiere rappers, choosing to fore go earlier label offers in order to establish a stronger fan base by way of the internet, promotional touring and a series of mix tapes. After the release of “Playtime is Over” and “Sucker Free”, it was her third mix-tape, the critically acclaimed “Beam Me Up Scotty” with featured appearances from Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Busta Rhymes, Bobby Valentino and Drake that caught the attention of music industry heavy weights. Lil Wayne asserts, “I am honored to have Nicki Minaj as Young Money’s First Lady. She is a star”
The battle among labels to sign Minaj heightened this summer and finalized with Minaj signing an exceptional and very unique deal with Young Money/Universal, where she retains and owns all of her 360 rights, including merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements, touring and publishing.
Nicki Minaj asserts, “To say I’m excited would be an understatement. It’s validation. It’s proof. It’s empowerment. I represent every little girl in a hood near you. To everyone that supported me two years ago when I was on underground mix-tapes and DVDs and to the people that only caught on two weeks ago, I say thank you. Be proud of yourself. You’ve given girls all around the world the permission to change the face of female rap.”Minaj’s debut album is anticipated to be released in early 2010 and will be distributed through Universal Motown. Minaj is currently appearing with Lil Wayne at sold-out arenas throughout the country on the America’s Most Wanted tour, which also features Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and more. Minaj continues to be managed by Mizay Enertainment’s Debra Antney who also represents Gucci Mane.

JAY-Z POST DAY!
MySpace Today meets Jay Z Part 1
Young Turbo sits down with MySpace Today to discuss his artistry. “I didn’t have any aspiration to be a superstar. I really just wanted to have a job.” Ha! He also talks about battling Busta Rhymes in high school.
I agree that Vol. 1 would’ve been a classic with the right song selection, but it’s still the best in the trilogy. Agree? Disagree?
[Via Roc4Life]
The concert is going down September 11th @ Madison Square Garden with proceeds going to charity. Check below for a new Jay-Z ad that goes through all his album covers.
Directed by Jake Davis
Behold the music video for Drake’s other mixtape hit, “Successful,” which features Trey Songz. You may notice that Lil Wayne’s verse is missing from this version (THANK GOD) which opens up more room for Trey Songz to assume a bigger role. Frankly, Trey’s new verse does little to enhance the overall quality of the song. The video is dark and eerie, much like the song itself.
According to OnSmash, “Successful” will appear on Trey Songz’ new album Ready (in stores tomorrow) as well as on Drake’s So Far Gone EP, due out September 15th, 2009.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER AN MY QUOTE OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!Not surprisingly, a calm and collected Jay-z responded to the internet’s downloading frenzy of his latest album which was scheduled to be released on September 11th. He said, “I learned to look at it as a great thing” in the MTV interview earlier today that was held to discuss his benefit concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
The part that’s interesting to me is even Hip-Hop artists and producers spent the day tweeting on the album in depth today along with the millions of others that made Jay-Z one of the one of the only artists name’s who can topple the Jonas Brothers. I suppose that once you get to the top, it’s natural to care less about people “liberating” your music.

Jay-Z LIVE From Madison Square Garden! It's Time To "Answer the Call" !

Jay-Z is scheduled to roc' Madison Square Garden on 9/11/09, the day The Blueprint 3 is scheduled to be released. Jay-Z will make history with an album release that will complete his trilogy of 'Blueprints' and answer the call for a great cause! See below:
"The events of September 11 challenged JAY-Z as an entertainer and a New Yorker. This charity concert serves as not just a reminder of the lives lost but as a look towards the future and the hope that arose on September 12. "This charity and concert encompass the true spirit of New York City,” commented Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter. “We are asking everyone to 'answer the call' and support and honor the families of those that lost their lives. There is a true camaraderie and resiliency this city showed the world in 2001 and we continue that today by taking care of our own.
For this live event, 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales and concert merchandise will go directly to “New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund.” Since its inception, New York Police & Fire Widow’s & Children’s Benefit Fund has distributed over $114 million to the families of New York City police and fire personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Though the Benefit Fund was initially created to assist families of New York City Fire Fighters and Police Officers, the non-profit now includes the families of Emergency Medical Services and Port Authority Officers as well. Jay-Z XXL Cover

“But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that… I believe in a lot of things. ?I believe that ‘SportsCenter’ is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. I’m talking about real run. I’m not talking about years off. I’m talking about straight—boom, boom, boom—back to back. We’re not talking about heritage acts either. We’re not talking about respect what I’ve done. I’m talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more ?No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.”
Make sure you cop the October issue of XXL with Jay-Z on the cover, he speaks on CRITICISM OF “D.O.A.”, HIS LEGACY AS FORMER DEF JAM RECORDS PRESIDENT, HIS STANDING IN THE GAME and more. Check out some excerpts from the interview over at RAPRADAR.com.

Kid Cudi "Man On The Moon" Tracklisting & Album Review

Last night Universal held a private listening session for Kid Cudi's highly anticipated album "Man On The Moon: The End Of Day" and it was GREAT. Make sure you look out for the album on September 15th!
The album was arranged like a play with five acts telling the emotional story of the lonely stoner. Kid Cudi isn't everyone's favorite artist because he isn't hardcore like Raekwon from Wu-tang is or ready to battle rap like Cassidy does. If you enjoy Alternative rock (think Coldplay) and enjoy high quality produced hip-hop beats that could have easily fitted on 808s & Heartbreak, then this album is for you.
To give you an idea of what to expect, it's a better version of 808s & Heartbreak minus the extreme amounts of emotional moments. Quite frankly, if Kanye never did 808s, Kid Cudi's album might not be as anticipated as it is today, but it WILL be an amazing experience for all listeners who are willing to step outside of the box and feel his every word.
Over at snarkjacobs.com a question was raised: "Which weirdo came first: the Cudi or the Ye?" The review below is snagged from this blog and it is on the money!
Act 1: The End of Day
1. In My Dreams (Cudder Anthem) – This was quite the orchestral entrance into Man On the Moon: The End of Day. With splashes of ambient sounds, mixed with trippy glazed beats, this song serves as the opening elixir into the mind of the Moon Man. A spoken word by Common sets the stage for Act 1. “This is the story of a man who not only believed in himself, but in his dreams too” Common says. While this song is supposed to serve as the “I can’t believe I’m here!” moment, Cudi’s tone is still somewhat wrapped in paranoia.
2. Soundtrack 2 My Life – The opening line is “I got 99 problems, and they all bitches.” Nuff said. It’s the purging of Cudi’s emotions on paper, where hidden feelings come to light backed by intricately placed nodding beats. As early as this song I was like “Wait a minute, this sounds like a better 808s and Heartbreaks!” Chicken or the egg, my friend. Chicken or the egg.
3. Simple As… – The mantra “A-B-C” is hugged by heavy drums that erupt into this tribal symphony. Cudi has successfully mastered the art of Sing-Rap. And why? Because it’s apparent that he can do both quite well. This is a combination that not too many can successfully pull off (unless their name is Lauryn Hill). Common arrives just in time to toot the horns for Act Two.
Act 2: The Rise of the Night Terror
4. Solo Dolo (nightmare) – I’m not entirely sure why some songs on this album were designated as “nightmares”. Most of this album sounds like a heap of nightmareshness (not a word, I know) if you ask me. This song is a dark and creepy entry into Cudi’s world of paranoia. It sounds like a spooky version of “Day N Nite” through Cudi’s dealings with loneliness set to the backdrop of nighttime.
5. Heart of a Lion (Kid Cudi Theme Music) – This could categorically be considered a House record, and Cudi rides the beat like a champ. This is one of those rare instances where stellar production doesn’t carry the lyrics. Rather, the lyrics accompany the stellar production. If you’re looking for Cudi to be tugging on your heartstrings with his tales of sadness think again. That’s all there, but in this case you come for the music and eventually stay for the words.
6. My World f. Billy Cravens – Let me just say that I’d love this song much more if Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars would’ve been on this track instead of Wes Craven’s pluralized nephew. This one is an audio-biography, where Cudi laments on being the artsy clownish figure to hide his darkness. “As I grew to be a teen, I disguised myself,” he says, once again hiding the real him.
Act 3: Taking a Trip
7. Day N Nite (nightmare) – What better way to celebrate the “trip” chapter than with this classic gem? I say classic because this song is old enough by now to be one. Still, it belongs here and is much more understandable now within the grand scheme of the album. Paranoia? Check. Loneliness? Check. Nighttime? Check. The end gets chopped and screwed, which is kind of odd but kind of cool at the same time.
8. Sky Might Fall – This song we’ve heard before, but previously Cudi rhyming in Kanye’s cadence made me roll my eyes. Now I wonder, was Kanye rhyming like Cudi? Anyway, Ye co-wrote this one, where Cudi is aware of the threat of no tomorrow but living for today. “Sky might fall, but I’m not worried at all,” he says. The end flows into a series of jittery yet harmonizing “I keep on runnin’s”. You say you’re sick of runnin, Cudi? Now you know how Ye feels!
9. Enter Galactic (Love Connection Part 1) – I loved this song. It sounded like London Beat to me. A full-bodied dance track, reminiscent of the ‘90s MTV Party to Go Era, but to be taken more seriously.
Act 4: Stuck
10. Alive (nightmare) f. RATATAT – Cudi’s rap on this track sounds nothing like him. The RATATAT production on this is pretty sexy and synthy, where Cudi slides through the beat with confidence, but still seems to ponder “do they really like me?”
11. Cudi Zone – This one is very synth-heavy and despite the fact that Kanye didn’t produce it, his fingerprints are all over it. This one sounded like the ‘80s, Men at Work even, plus a pocketful of 808s and Cudi lyrically on point.
12. Make Her Say f. Kanye West and Common – The Lady Gaga “Poker Face” sample sounds as if she was part of the track the way M.I.A. was on “S.L.U.” While this song has already been played ad nauseam thanks to the internets, it still sounds better within the context of the whole album.
13. Pursuit of Happiness (nightmare) f. MGMT & RATATAT – This song was a vortex that sucked almost everyone in the room into it. Starting out with mildly distorted feedback that dissipates into an airy and bubbly trip, the song is not without Cudi’s mind numbing lyrics about death and the what-ifs.
Act 5: A New Beginning
14. Hyerr f. Chip the Ripper – This one had a smooth southern drawl to it, sounding like an Outkast song on sleeping pills. While Cudi isn’t promoting ambient-laced dreams he’s sounding, dare I say, sexy. It could also be that this song reminded me of Andre3000 and well, you know…
15. Up Up & Away – A punchy way to end his play. Electric guitars that give way to thumping drums, where each instrument is introduced in order. It’s the culmination of Cudi’s life set to music, similar to the end of the Glow In the Dark Tour, carrying the same tone of acceptance with the life you’ve been given. This song was the best possible End of the Day that the Man on the Moon could have offered.

Wale Reveals His Favorite Song on Blueprint 3

One of the hottest hip-hop artists on the rise also happens to be a Roc Nation artist. We're talking about D.C.'s own Wale Folarin. We caught up with Wale in Houston last night and asked him to pick his favorite song from Blueprint 3. Even though we put him on the spot, Wale didn't defer to a vague response like "um, all of them." Here's what he had to say:
"I've heard the record. You know I'm signed to Jay. Um, I like "Stars." It ain't out yet, but that's the record that I think is my favorite. It's got J Cole on there."
Don't forget to catch Wale on BET's Rising Icons, which airs August 31st.
If you haven't already done so, now is a perfect time to pre-order your own copy of Blueprint 3, the eagerly anticipated third and final installment of Jay's Blueprint series. BP3 is due out September 11, 2009.

DARK KNIGHT TRAILER SAME AS BATMAN?
This video is a side-by-side comparison of the trailer for the original Tim Burton Batman and for the upcoming Christopher Nolan Dark Knight.
It would appear they’re eerily similar, down to the exact moment when the Joker first appears in full makeup. I assume neither trailer has been altered (because what the hell would the point of that be). My guess is that, since the original Batman is often credited with creating the hype machine as we now know it, the makers of The Dark Knight wisely used it as a template.
Also, did you hear Chris Nolan had an assistant named Tim Burton and Tim Burton had an assistant named Chris Nolan? Oh my God bro, you just blew my mind!

The Red Ring Of Death: Xbox 360 At 54.2% Failure Rate

Ok first im PS3 all day! second this wild!! those are really big numbers lol... an thanks to http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/ we get this post
In Game Informer’s 5,000 person study of console owners, 54.2% of Xbox 360 owners’ systems went under due to the Red Rings of Death or the E74 error.
For those that don’t know, these defects make the machines inoperable. According to the survey results only 10.3% of PS3s and 6.8% of Nintendo Wii’s suffered similar malfunctions that would render them unusable. That’s a pretty disgusting figure for the 360 assuming this survey was done properly. That’s not even the worst part. The same survey revealed that only about 4 percent of those with broken 360’s wouldn’t buy another one.
Only 4%? EXCUSE ME?!?! © Pete Rosenberg and DJ Cipha Sounds.
This does and doesn’t make sense. On one end common sense tells you fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Why buy a product again, in this case a relatively expensive entertainment device, if it broke the first time and has a reputation for not being reliable? It’s like asking to get punched in the right eye when dude already stole on you in your left.
But on the flip side Microsoft’s warranty will repair your system for free up to three years after you bought if it has RROD or E74. In light of this, tons of heads send their assed out system, keep the hard drive and buy an arcade version for $200 or less. Then when their original 360 comes back they’ll flip it on eBay or find some other way to get rid of it. With great titles, expensive peripherals and an optional yearly fee for online gaming cats realize they spent too much dough on their 360 to drop it cold turkey. This means that many are compelled to keep rockin’ till the wheels fall off (i.e. till their three year ride dries up). Fingers have been pointed at MS for rushing the 360 out a year before Sony’s PStriple without properly testing it for problems.
For the record, I’ve owned a 360 for almost two years and I haven’t had any issues. But David D., as well as some of my friends and family, had their 360’s crap out on them. It’s pretty disheartening that consumers will get up in arms about exclusives and other BS but take such a high failure rate lying down. With over 30 million systems sold worldwide this situation really needs some seven on your side-type treatment. Microsoft isn’t being held accountable enough for their follies.

Tom Green an Xzibit Bringin Old Schoolback

Please watch this not only is it super funny but tom can really rap lol the story is from Roc4life.com....This is not exactly an "lmao" in the sense that you'll double over and crack up but it's still funny. The last time we saw Tom Green flex his mc skills was on For the Love of Ray J. Remember: Danger, she smashed the homies? I know I'm not the only one who couldn't get that chant out of my head lol. Mr. Green was on to something. Check him out here as he battles and holds his own against Xzibit. Um, that's not an easy task because Xzibit gets down. He may have been going a little easy on Tom Green here, but you can clearly tell that TG gets it in. Do I smell collabos?
